Welcome to John Schimenti's Lab at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.

Our  lab uses the mouse as a model to investigate the genetics and mechanisms of gametogenesis, meiosis, and genome maintenance.  In particular, we study the role of genes affecting DNA repair and replication, and how mutations of these genes predispose to cancer and developmental defects.  Another major project concerns the genetics of recombination and checkpoint mechanisms that protect against chromosome aberrations and birth defects in offspring. Finally, we have undertaken a project to identify human infertility alleles in the population using CRISPR modeling in mice. See “Projects” above.
