Welcome to John Schimenti's Lab at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.

Our  lab investigates the genetics and mechanisms of gametogenesis, meiosis, and genome maintenance.  In particular, we focus on role of genes that are important for: 1) germ cell formation and  fertility; 2) cancer prevention; and 3) avoidance of mutations that would cause developmental defects in offspring.  We used the mouse as a model system to modify and mutate orthologs of  human genes, using genome editing and transgenic technologies such as CRISPR.  See “Projects” tab for more details.
